Arsenal Champions League Qualifiers

It only seems to have been a couple of weeks ago that Arsenal had one hand on the Champions League trophy in Paris before Barcelona's late rally pinched the prize from under their nose. The Gunners now begin on the long road back to Athens next May with the first leg of the third qualifying round at Dinamo Zagreb. Mixed fortunes accompany their journey to Croatia. They will be without suspended goalkeeper Jens Lehmann, the rested Thierry Henry and an injured quartet of Freddie Ljungberg, Gael Clichy, Lauren and Phillippe Senderos. And an evolving side will be without the departed Sol Campbell and Robert Pires while Dennis Bergkamp has called time on his illustrious career. Add to that the headlines being made by wantaway duo Ashley Cole and Jose Antonio Reyes and you could start to think that there might be a little lack of focus in the camp on the task ahead. On the plus side, exciting summer acquisition Tomas Rosicky is scheduled for a competitive debut. The Gunners comfortably won their warm-up game against AZ Alkmaar 3-0 last Friday as well and Wenger will have been pleased to see both Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie find the net in Henry's absence.
